Well I have the LG 840g now fwiw. The phone is still unregistered. Connecting to Wi-Fi I can see the internet with the default browser. The phone won't install UC Browser it says it has to be registered. Using the default browser when I try to connect to Shoutcast I get the same page that ST dog was seeing or the "Coming soon" link back to the same page. Trying to input a direct link to a stream also returns an error, something like missing flash I think.
Maybe after the phone is registered it will have better luck. This message was from one of the Tracfone customers service reps:
And then this reply tooHi Marty_d, this is Alex from TracFone Wireless. Yes you can listen to internet music using Wi-Fi but since it does not support Flash; the phone may not function well. Some are able to use other application for listening to music and have them installed on their phone, while it is possible to use both Wi-Fi and the phone's browser at the same time when streaming music. You just have to take it one step at a time. I suggest, use Wi-Fi so you will not consume all your minutes. For your last question, Bluetooth is just a device you can use whether connected to Wi-Fi or not. If you have any other question, send us an email at TF.CorpResolutionTeam@tracfone.com.
That sounds pretty good.Thank you for your interest in TracFone Wireless. You are very much welcome. You may try to listen to music using Wi-Fi but it is not guaranteed that it will function well since the phone does not support Flash. You can also connect to a Bluetooth headset with your phone. If you have further questions, please send it to TF.CorpResolutionTeam@tracfone.com.

I'm a little dissapointed now since annepani said it was possible. Oh well. Maybe it can be possible with a java app after the phone is registered in March.

I should clarify the question about Bluetooth. I was trying to see if the Wi-Fi antenna would operate at the same time as the Bluetooth antenna, that is simultaneously broadcasting and receiving on both frequencies.

Well, trying to talk about Flash actually, sorry about that. And I am not sure at all about versions if IE. Win 8 desktop is 10 but the Start page doesn't give up a lot of information. This is Microsoft we're talking about here though; IE for ARM (windows CE) used to be like IE5, and they'd just make a few improvements and increase the version # to approximate the desktop version number. I don't think the RT browser is still IE5, but I won't be surprised to find it is not just desktop IE minus flash but fairly different codebase.

At any rate, I think I want to get a high end smart phone at this point. Keep the Tracfone for telephone time but have the high end device to use over Wi-fi with no phone contract. Probably a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 when they arrive. Wacom licensed pressure sensitive pen is very interesting to me. Or maybe the Galaxy Note 8.0 depending if it has the 8 core processor and a nice camera etc. <g>
I followed the advice in this thread and am able to play Soma FM directly through the native browser (no UC, Opera or BiNu needed) on my Samsung S390G over my wifi connection. Thanks people!![]()
