Can Ting Phones transfer to other carriers?

I am planning on leaving Verizon Wireless to hopefully save some $$$, and I am likely going to give Ting a try, but before I pull the trigger, I am wondering if it is possible to use a phone purchased from Ting elsewhere (If I later decide to switch providers again?

I am planning on purchasing either an Samsung SIII or the NoteII.
    Thanks in advance,
    -BassKozz

I personally wouldn't buy an S3 from Ting right now, especially with the S4 and HTC One coming out in two weeks.

The Note 2 is a safer bet for now.

The S3 can't be brought over through BYSOD to Ting either, even if you found it for cheap.

Thanks drewsxr, I didn't realize the S4 was on the near-term horizon...
I am going to hold off for that !

Alternatively, you might wait for the S4 to come out, and then buy the S3 when they become discounted...

It might be worthwhile to point out that while the announcement of the S4 will be in the next week or 2, it will probably be a couple of months before it is actually available for sale and then who knows how long till after that before it becomes available on Ting. I'd probably wait for the announcement and see if there is a subsquent price reduction on the S3, but if your looking for a phone now I wouldn't hesitate about buying the S3.

Ting just posted BYOSD Beta test for LTE devices, so the S3 would be a great option now.

I picked up a minty fresh Sprint S3 on Craigslist for $180 recently. Just waiting to put it on Ting.

There are good deals to be had out there.

You can always consider moving a Ting or Sprint byosd device from Ting to say Eco , chit chat or Prepayd which all support LTE devices now without data yet. 3g only at this time . But it does activate.

Does Ting openly provide the spc or msl for their phones since that is one of the requirements for flashing?

They'll readily provide it on request, but it's also included in the automated activation email, so you usually don't even have to ask.

There's no such thing as Ting firmware.

People are having trouble getting Sprint to activate Ting phones, but that's because Sprint's so disorganized most of the people in the retail division are completely clueless about how their system works with the wholesale division. The phones will move, and if you get stuck with a Sprint rep who can't help you, Ting can work on it from their end.

Ting phones do not have "Ting firmware." I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 that I bought from Ting, and it has Sprint firmware. There is nothing about the phone's firmware that is limited to Ting. And Ting has posted, repeatedly, that its phones are in Sprint's MVNO database and thus can be activated on any other Sprint MVNO. They've also said that, upon request, they'll move the ESN back to Sprint's native database so you can active on Sprint.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that, but, if you did, you should be able to.

I Wireless can choose not to accept phones from Sprint or its MVNOs. Ting has no ability to force other MVNOs to accept its phones.
