I use Ooma VoIP service on my alarm system and it has been flawless. It costs about $4 a month.

I don't understand why people pay for security services... My home uses a cheap reliable auto dialer security system on Ooma. At my business I have some Foscam IP cameras setup with motion detection and email with remote FTP video recording. Good insurance is a must before anything though...

old topic but can something like verizon home phone (or something similar) replace a landline and be usable/compatible with security systems?

Check out envisalink 3 ip module if you have a dsc security system. Im using alarm relay and they are flat out awesome! They send text and emails as well as call before you can even get the alarm cut off!

Im also using voip.ms for voip. 4.95 a month unlimited!
