Question Using VM phone w/ wifi only

    Hello forum dwellers,
I am new here and am anxious to get some opinions. I have the paylo plan and cannot use a smart phone with it. I want to use my excess account dollars (tnx VM!!) to pick up a phone w/ camera to take pictures and when in wifi range, post them to FB etc. I asked a question on the paylo thread re: this but it was kinda off topic.
The phone I am looking at is the Samsung Galaxy II because it has SD card capability, 8mp camera, both front and back cameras, and wifi. plus is blutooth.
Never had a smart phone so I dont know what the heck I am doing, but before I spend $279 on this phone I would like some assurances that it will work fine as a mobile camera that can, when near a wifi connection, post phtots to the web. A big plus would be if I could get into google and email as well, or use any of the google functions that I have. I have a chromebook and all my online activities are pretty tightly integrated on that platform. I just need to camera to be integrated as well. And for VM to offer us paylo users access to usable phones! Looking forward to diving into the android O/S!!

You absolutely can use all those functions via Wi-Fi! I've let my son use an inactive android phone as a sort of iPod Touch; the only functions that would be restricted would be any that require a phone number/active account, such as calling and texting. Even then, there are apps you can get to use those functions over Wi-Fi as well. TextPlus works well, and I've heard that Google Voice is great for Wi-Fi calling.

Any app I can think of that uses an internet connection will work over Wi-Fi as well... think of how an iPad or other tablet functions. That's basically what the SII would be for you - a smallish, Wi-Fi only tablet

Thanks aml! I use google voice on my computer! good to know. I like the idea of thinking of it as a small tablet. I think the Samsung GII will be better since it has the largest screen as well.
Looking forward to other opinions on which VM offering would be best, or anyone w/ experience using the GSII camera- speed, pic quality etc.
