Can a Straight Talk purchased Cell be unlock to use on other carriers?

Daughter retired her 2 year old Nokia E-71 this past March (2013).
This phone was purchased at Walmart and has used Straight Talk ($45 plan ) since purchase.
The cell ran on the AT&T network via Walmart's / TracFone network agreements.
Last refill for phone expired less than 90 days ago.
Will Walmart / Straight Talk / TracFone provide a means to UNLOCK this phone to run any
network providing the proper GSM connection?
If yes, how do I start the ball rolling?
If no, any value to this phone ... other than moving it back into Straight Talks system?
Phone still has the original At&T Sim, which we assume will continue to run on the AT&T network.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Dennis

as far as its resale. be certain it does not appear in the straight talk website account and the sims stays with the phone and you could resell. you would have to try to have it unlocked and i do not know how easy or cheap that might be. you buy them new non ST for $100 if that helps you.

no cannot be unlocked to work with any other gsm carrier.people have tried it in vain.

you can resell the phone.kust remove it from your account.they are still popular due to the sim not being locked to the phone.you can use the sim in an att phone.

the models are different but the software is close enough that the answer is the same. no. its way to much trouble if you could hack it with server time.

nokia phones can be unlocked, painful process, british guy, has a software program, that uses bruteforce olgorithm to unlock it. costs about 20-25$. so need to be sure that the phone is worth unlocking.
Tracfone will do nothing for you, and doesnt understand the concept of unlocking, they have extra software locks, on most other phones, except the nokias.

Thanks for all of the info guys.
Seems like Walmart / Smart Talk have these phones locked down tight .. a disappointing
reality of the cell phone industry.
Will try to sell phone / Sim. Any suggestions for ask price .. $25, 50$ .. ?
Can a current user be allowed to port over their number to bring it into their Straight Talk account?
Can a new user create a new account / Straight Talk phone number to this phone?
    Thanks

best thing about that st branded nokia e71 is the sim is not locked to the phone.after activating the phone you can pull the sim and place it into most gsm phones and talk and sms will work right on the spot.now data that is a different story.

IMO - If one decides to use ST/Net10 with this service and has to buy their branded phone due to immediate need or something(vs BYOP), don't buy an expensive phone. After you leave, it will be of no value to you and have little resale value on the open market .
