Got a text message today from Straight Talk

I got a text message today from Straight Talk that said my phones browser required an update and to click on the link provided (it is a tracfone link). I have been using the stock browser on my Proclaim with no problems. I haven't clicked on the link. Did anyone else get this? I'm not sure if I should do this or not.

I would switch over to Chrome or another 3rd party browser over the stock one.

I got that too. I clicked into it and there was not an update. Just some options. Not sure what they were now. I don't want to go back in. It seems that nothing happened to my phone as a result though.

If someone will post the link I will check it out on my d3. If its designed to be something malicious for your proclaim then it may not do any harm to my phone and even if it does I can simply restore my phone and set it back up in about 30 minutes anyways so there wouldn't be any harm.

Someone posted about this weeks ago. It seemed bogus and then I got the same thing using Firefox. And then Straight talk posted on their Facebook or twitter, I saw it and it took me for surprise, they announced this very same "Browser upgrade experience" and about entering your phone number. Not sure what's going on but straight talk has announced it officially. And its not just popping up in default android browser.

It came to be after a data usage alert crap. Not sure what that is but anyways. And then it says browser update to enter phone number and I clicked skip and it took me to the mobile tracphone browser homepage. I'm under Net10 BYOD AT&T sim.

This is not a message in a browser window, it was an SMS from 54676.

security certificates are not delivered by text. browsers have special places certificates are installed to and a text could not do that. the web page could not be traced to tracfone.

if service time can be added to your phone without using a password to login to your web panel what else can be done with just your phone number being entered into a website? that's kinda scary when you look at the broad strokes.

I'm aware of that, but in was just stating. Rather a browser or text message declaring the same notice, even after straight talk has announced a "browser experience upgrade" on their social media networks, somethings going on but I'm not testing it out.

This is taken from their Facebook. This is the announcement I was referring to.
