Tracfone Browser Upgrade in Straight Talk Phone?

Hi - I've tried to research this on these forums before posting.
Last week (after my phone suddenly froze), the native browser on my Samsung/ Straight Talk/ Verizon phone changed its home page.
The new home page (I can no longer access it) had the Tracfone, ST and other logos, and said, "To enhance your browser, enter your phone number and press send." The webpage included a place to enter my number. I did not do this. It's odd that ST would need my phone number for an app upgrade on my phone.
This page came up repeatedly for a few days, then stopped appearing.
Now the regular browser doesn't work right - it won't zoom anymore and it won't go to mobile versions of websites - every page browsed is the regular website. And without zoom, of course nothing is readable.
    So ...
    1. Does anybody know about this?
    2. How can I get my browser working again?
    3. Is there a way to reload the browser app?
    4. Is there a way to scan a phone for viruses? Any recommended apps?

    Thanks.

tracfone has nothing to do with android browser and those updates would be pushed to the phone.

i suspect something bad happened. reset your phone to factory and change all your passwords if you want to be safe

Well, okay. But the browser that came with my phone - "android browser" (whatever that is - I haven't heard of it). It is different than the browser on my previous android phone (HTC). I'm hoping for some more specific information before I go nuclear with my phone. Thanks for your reply.

How did you know it's Android? Aren't there any Samsung feature phones on Straight Talk Verizon? Probably is Android, since they owned another Android. Just wondering if it's not. However, there are Android malware at various sketchy websites...

Still the other is good advice about the factory reset.

I also keep recent image backups to restore.

Tell us EXACTLY the phone and phone model you have.

Samsung/Straight Talk/Verizon is like saying you have a black Ford or a grey Dell.
Your creed may be interesting, but your deeds are much more convincing.

i was guessing. you have a issue it best not to make people guess. regardless 20 years of working to block bad guys and my advice would not be different even if he would have been more clear. a key logger is all it would take to be a bad thing. you cant see bad stuff today. if its possible wipe it clean.

thats all i got. be safe or be sorry.

And what does the post say? Does it say it's legit or does it say it's a scam to be avoided?

Where on Straight Talk's Facebook page? What date is the post?

    Arhgghh..

Calling all Android users! We wanted to let you know that we've enhanced the mobile browser experience. When you see the screen below, simply input your phone number and we'll handle the rest.

Thanks for your help - seriously.
Since there is only one Verizon Samsung phone for Straight Talk (The Galaxy Proclaim, which appears to be no longer available), I didn't think I would need to be so specific. People who know about Straight Talk generally or have Android phones with them would be the most likely to know what is going on with this browser stuff.

Yes, the image you included is very similar to the screen I saw. For whatever reason the logo images were on the bottom of my browser upgrade page. Since I don't do social media I hadn't thought of Facebook as a CS option. In any case, it would be helpful of Straight Talk to explain what these "enhancements" are. All I saw in the (long) thread were a bunch of angry people complaining about data throttling and the browser upgrade failing, and no explanations.

Just a bit more discussion here.
I'm not very intimate with my phone, so I didn't know its model name. It has a few names if you look online. It's no longer sold by ST so I couldn't look it up there. Finally I pulled the battery to enter the serial # and obtain the model that way. I did know that it was the only Verizon network, Samsung phone on ST.
Since I don't have Facebook, I can't log on and ask ST a question there. In any case in the past I have found Howard Forums a faster, more reliable and better-English-speaking forum to ask my questions.
I installed AVG's phone protection app and it found nothing wrong. After rebooting my phone the browser (old version) works correctly again.
I wonder why ST requires a phone number in order to push an upgrade to a phone that is using their service. I'm not participating in their enhancement.

yeah I got this a few weeks ago and I actually gave them my number and it did upgrade the tracefone page. If its a scam then interesting.

What happened before that was while surfing thru my phone, the web crashed and then that came up.

I admit I don't know about most of Straight Talk branded phones. Most (not all) are their phones from 2 - 5 years ago, or older. I actually didn't know Straight Talk only had one Samsung phone on Verizon.

The exceptions of course are the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3. Those are only a year old.
