Still getting iMessages sent to my old iPhone on Verizon?

Just switched to Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 from a Verizon iPhone 4S but people who are sending me iMessages are still being sent to my iphone. What should I do to get all texts sent to my Galaxy S4?

Going into the settings on your iPhone and turning off iMessage would probably fix it. That and removing the account thats responsible for imessage from your phone.

It takes apple about a week or so after you get rid of an iPhone to realize you do not have iMessage anymore. I swap back and fourth regularly and i always have that issue, i just disable all data on iPhone and your friends will see it go as an imessage first, then as a text for a few days, then it'll stop trying to send an iMessage

I had the imessage hell when I switched from an att iPhone 4 to the S3. My iPhone line had already been cancelled and all before the issue surfaced. Only fix was to wait it out, after a week or so Apples system finally fixed itself.

If senders are sending to your Apple ID and you have your new phone configured to accept iMessages to the same Apple ID you will continue to get iMessages. Working as designed.
If you have the same phone number and senders are sending iMessages to that number same applies.
