FreedomPop teases free phone service over Sprint's network, due this summer

    ZOweeT!

Oh, hell. FreedomPop might really be onto something this time. The company best known for doling out 500MB of free mobile data per month to hotspots, iPods andhome routers will step up its game later this summer with a free phone service for Android users... with a few caveats, that is. To get by on the cheap, you'll need to make do with a relatively scant 200 voice minutes and 500MB of mobile data in order to avoid overage fees, but to FreedomPop's credit, it'll include unlimited texting as part of the mix. What's more, if you happen to go over your minute allotment, you'll be charged a rather reasonable $9.99, which brings unlimited voice to the table. As you might've suspected, data overages are the biggest caveat to FreedomPop's service, which can cost between $10 and $20 per gigabyte.
The service will operate over Sprint's network, which brings access to EV-DO and WiMAX, and also leverages VoIP for calls. While it won't be available at launch, FreedomPop tells us that LTE may eventually worm its way into the offering.

Does this look promising as far as if they are dumping the old, the new is going to happen soon?

They did it! Lte. Labor day!!!

FreedomPop is a mobile network operator with a pretty crazy business model. You buy the wireless hotspot or USB dongle, and they provide the internet for free: 500MB of free data every month, with no contracts, activation or cancellation fees. The network was the catch — FreedomPop originally piggybacked on Sprint's WiMAX network, which is generally smaller and slower than the competition. Hopefully, that catch will be shortlived. Today FreedomPop will begin offering the very same service on Sprint's faster, more capable LTE network.
For now, LTE service will start with a single device, the $150 FreedomSpot 5580, a Novatel Wireless device more commonly known as the Sprint MiFi 500 LTE which lasts up to 10 hours on a charge. FreedomPop claims users will see average speeds of 6 to 8 megabits per second, and peak speeds of up to 25Mbps on the new network.
FreedomPop tells us it also has more LTE devices on the way, and should also launch its Freedom Phone service before long. "The Freedom Phone will launch very soon — right around the Labor Day timeframe," a rep told The Verge.

That MiFi device is Tri-Band capable, S4GRU made a couple test runs to Denver, CO. to test out 2.5GHz LTE.

I wonder what they mean by, FreedomPop Android phone? If it is a hotspot also things could heat up!
Today a group of leading venture capitalists published an open letter to the FCC calling on them to prevent what they say would be the end of net neutrality and a crippling blow to young startups.
No Google, say it ain't (or wouldn't of been ) so! ATT and Verizon would have killed their own cash cow.
