    need help with phone..

    Just got this phone... Just used the 45$ plan... It switched to 4g and then like 30 seconds later it goes to E... Apparently i cant make phone calls with E while i switch from 2-4 bars... I dont understand ... E is the internet right.. and the bars is for service.. This makes no sense... Its the windows 8 straight talk from walmart... Could you guys help me out . thanks

    your coverage is suspect with that behavior. 4-e

    go to tmobile and enter your street address in the coverage area and see what you have around you and let us know

    it is not a t-mobile phone it says cellular when i go under the setting..

    did the box have on it gsm-a or just gsm.

    how far do you live from the walmart that you purchased the phone from.

    nvm i called up 611 and got info on phone... its at&t and its working on 4g now .. it cuts out sometimes though.... and im about 30 mins from walmart

    simplest things first - turn off, remove battery, wait 2 min, re inset battery, turn on.

    Can't hurt. They'll tell you to do this if you call support.

    Good to hear. I have ATT and need to turn off / on about 2 x per week to get the www.

    GSM has never permitted simultaneous voice and data. You need 3G or higher for that. EDGE (E) is for data only. When you are in an active data session on GSM, voice is blocked. When you are on a voice call on GSM, data is suspended. That is normal behavior.

    the 4g to E might mean you are at the edge of the att towers range.the switching back anf forth is your phone and tower is having a hard time staying locked.i had this problem till all att towers near my home got upgraded to 3g.

    do you live out into the rual arrea.

    you should check your coverage using att maps and see what it looks like in your area now that we know its not tmobile. i had to guess. the settings in the phone that say cellular will not help here.

    you need to know whats the coverage is like. i have had service on the edge before. i mean when you look at the map the color may change from light blue to dark blue and your location is right on the line between. that could mean the service will drift between 4g and 2g or whatever.

    those maps will help manage your expectations. if you can not get good signal with att then you need to find who can give you good signal. using a combination of verizon or other carrier maps and then talk to neighbors and see what they use.

    walking in a store and walking out with the right thing is a hit or a miss unless you do some research before hand.

    look and see what you can find out and report back. we will help. lots of eager helpers
