Moto Razr Maxx phone doesn't work in Canada

Does Moto razr maxx work in Canada?

I recently bought a moto razr maxx phone from Kijiji. The seller said the phone is unlocked and he used the phone with Bell mobile network. I didn't try the phone on site because the phone only takes micro-sim card while I only had a regular sim card.

I tried sim cards from 7-11 (which is Rogers), virgin (Bell), and Telus, none of them works with the phone. I checked the phone setting. The network shows only two options: LTE/CDMA, CDMA only. Does this phone only work in the US? Is there any way to unlock/hack it and let it work in Canada? I hope it can work with 7-11 mobile service.

I also tried to unlock the phone. But the phone didn't even ask me to “Enter unlock/ subsidy code” when I inserted a 7-11 sim card. The formula of #073887* and #786074* didn't work either. What is the problem of this phone?

    Thanks a lot

Nice Phone but I believe it is strictly for Verizon in the states.

The Droid RAZR Maxx has HSPA capabilities when running Jelly Bean. Previous OS versions have the HSPA radio disabled.

The Droid RAZR Maxx HD has HSPA capabilities out of the box.

The information from the link looks good. The current version is 4.0.4. How do I upgrade it to Jelly Bean?

    Thanks

Connect it to WiFi then go to the settings -> About Phone -> System updates

    Thanks a lot

I found the upgrade page on motorola web. Unfortunately, the phone (version 6.16.207.xt908.lra.en.us) is not ready for upgrade yet.

"This device is currently running Android 4.0.4 (ICS). Stay tuned for an upgrade decision."

It will not work in Canada as no Canadian carrier currently has 700mhz LTE coverage. The CDMA portion won't work either as neither Telus nor Bell will activate foreign CDMA handsets. Sadly, you are SOL.

It won't work on LTE but the HSPA modem supports the HSDPA 850/1900 needed for 3G coverage

Does it work after the phone is unlocked?

and if Motorola company pushes out Jelly Bean upgrade for this phone, will the phone work in Canada?

If the phone can't work anyway, I will try to sell it on ebay to US users. In this case, which US mobile carrier will work with this phone?

    thanks a lot

The phone does work in Canada once you have the jelly bean update which enables the HSPA radio.
