Connecting Android phone to Windows XP

    Greetings.

I just switched over from TracFone to an ATT Go Phone so I could use it in Canada. I bought the Avail 2 Android Smart Phone. I tried connecting the phone to the USB port of my Windows XP computer, and it brought up the Found New Hardware Wizard, prompting me for my installation disk. Which was not included with the phone.

Any ideas as to where to find the driver? I have found this

    http: backslash backslash software.intel.com/en-us/articles/intel-usb-driver-for-android-devices

which is for the Intel Atom processor. Is that what I have?

Sorry for the condition of that url, I don't have enough posts to allow me to include a direct link.

    Thank you,

    GBW

i looked in the manual. these steps describe handling a music file........but its the same for other file types.

    Adding Music to Your Phone
You can add music to your phone’s internal storage or to a removable microSD
card (see Phone Setup – Inserting a microSD Card).
    Note:
Steps may vary depending on your operating system.
1 Connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable.
    2 Tap Media device (MTP).
3 On your PC, choose to view files through Windows Explorer. If you have a Mac, visit http://www.android.com/filetransfer to download the necessary software.
4 Choose whether you want to add files to your phone’s internal storage or to the
microSD card, and then drag and drop the files you want to transfer.
5 When you’re finished transferring files, open the notifications panel and tap
Connected as a media device>Charge only.
    You may now safely disconnect
    your phone from the computer

    here's the manual

    Thanks, and my apologies.

When I connected the phone, it brought up a screen that says
    -Charge Only
    -Install driver
    -Connect to PC software
    -Media Device
    -Camera (PTP)

I chose installer because that's what it recommends when this is enabled for the first time. It then says that it is configured as an installer, so things seemed to be working correctly at the phone end of things.

Then the hardware wizard came up and didn't recognize the device, so I unplugged. This time I left it alone for a few minutes without unplugging, and it installed the driver.

I guess I should be more patient...

    Thanks again.
