Endgadget and others are announcing the exit of NEC from the mobile phone market. As most know, Casio phones are manufactured under a joint NEC (70%)-Casio (20%)-Hitachi (9.6%) venture. Recently, NEC courted Lenovo to purchase its share of the joint venture. That has apparently fallen through. With this, NEC will leave the mobile phone market. What this means for the future of Casio G'zone phones is anyone's guess. I would say it looks bleak. Some of us may have to look elsewhere for our rugged phones in the future.
