Anyone here managed to snap a dev edition of the phone? I am curious to know if the dev edition is also loaded with all the Verizon bloatware. Also interested in knowing if Motorola or Verizon control the software updates.

The reasons to get a developer edition are many, but mainly revolve around the unlockable bootloader and the ability to gain root easily and thereby better control your user experience with the device, including security concerns.
The increased risks are inherent, of course, but it is the only way to take a more active role in managing those risks, should you desire to.

The notion that we should all write all of the firmware and applications on our own devices to avoid the need to trust anyone else is preposterous.
Networks are, by definition, shared trust systems wherein you relinquish some control in order to access the network.

Agreed. Lol. It didn't occur to me that anyone would read it that way. Your entire post is well-reasoned.

I think it sensible to have some qualms or reservations, though, about trusting Google or the carriers any more than necessary. The 'French model' principle applies.

It sounds like Settings>Wifi>*uncheck* Notify Me would do the trick. The Notify me box is so close to the Wifi ON/OFF switch that you may have hit it on accident, I have many times.

Yeah, check this morning for Software Updates and you can pull the update.
If you have rooted using PwnMyMoto then you will need to flash the stock recovery in fastboot or the update will fail and you may be stuck in a boot loop.
If you have modified or removed anything in your system partition, then you need to restore everything to original stock or flash the system.img from the XML.zip along with the recovery.
The update will cause you to lose root, which is easily restored if you have a dev edition by simply flashing a custom recovery and booting directly into recovery the first time from fastboot.

The update is a significant improvement in camera performance and speed as well as many other bug fixes such as BT connectivity and improved response time and accuracy of the Touchless control features.

Thanks my friend. I did it today and regained root and TWRP also with this code thanks to Team Black Hat. Saved the day when the OTA update went into bootloop.

    fastboot flash recovery twrp263.img
    then reboot into recovery
while in recovery you will do the following
    adb push su /system/xbin/
    adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
    you will now have root

Let's get together soon. I need to update this picture of you.

I don't look much different...a few more grey hairs...that was March 2009 as I recall, taken with Napoleon.

Interestingly, I spoke to P3Droid last night and I didn't have to use any shell commands to reroot.
I just flashed TWRP 2.6.3.0 and it restored root automagically.

Glad you got it worked out!
