Tracfone ZTE Valet spotted in store

Went to Best Buy today and saw this phone for sale. You could tell it was new as the peg didn't even have the barcode or price on it. Asked for a price check and was told $99.99. Phone comes with a 4 gig micro sd card. Maybe that means the phone has low internal memory? I thought the trend was to bump up the internal memory and avoid including a memory card? It was Android 4.1.

Phone has the new packaging. It does not say "CDMA-V" like before. On the back cover I did see just "CDMA." Don't know why they went back to trying to hide the carrier. Anyway, on the inside flap it presented all the rate plans which match with what we know already: 180/180/180, 360/360/360, 600/600/600, etc. Also, there was the annual rate card for $99.99. It provided 1200/1200/1.2 gig for 365 days.

I tried to tell the kid working there about this being the first smart Tracfone and all that. It was obvious he didn't care.

I was most interested in this phone, if I try a smartphone again. To me, the Centura gets a lot mediocre reviews. The LG has a tiny screen at 3.2". Sorry no pic. Left my s380c in the car .

I looked again at tracfone.com and tracfonewireless.com and still no mention of the phones or rate plans. If you can buy them retail, you'd think the info would be on their site. Oh wait, this is Tracfone...lol.

Not on the BB site either.

Was this a full store or a "mobile" store?

I can check both, but they are opposite directions. Would mean 30-40 minutes out of the way to check both.

Great find! I might have to swing by my local Best Buy and see what I can find. I really don't understand why Tracfone doesn't have anything on their site? I would think they would want to sell them there first, to get everyone to buy them direct. Doesn't make a lot of sense, but as Indyrunr89 said, it is Tracfone after all.

    Went by after work.

Just the ZTE, none of the others.
No Google card (only one of a dozen NET10 boxes had the sticker either)

It's good to see the refill/plans breakdown, but I'm still uninformed as to whether that is some new (to TracFone) concept of voice minutes AND texts AND data, or if it's the standard TF breakdown of pulling from the same bucket (the OR factor). Anyone have insight on this? If it's the former this should be quite the hot ticket.

It appears to be three separate tanks, each not allowed to spill over into another. You thought keeping minutes and days balanced was difficult, now you will be balancing talk/text/data/days, with data being the only one you can add individually (well maybe also days). Talk/text are set equally by the airtime card, with the same familiar days for each card denomination.

One thing I found interesting was the apparent new card designs.

These look to match the design of the new data cards shown on the box and on the website

This comparison contains errors for the ZTE -- resolution, etc. They are pretty much the same.

to me, buying the 1 year airtime service plan would not be a good idea. because you do not know how long the phone will last.

I think they aren't actively advertising they have androids on their website so you see that their old phones are low in price and buy them first and then upgrade to android, buying two phones from them.

It says 480x800 (screen resolution) wherever I look. Is that not correct? What do you think it really is?
Yes, that would make it better than the Centura ...

the three main differences in the comparison are the processor (1ghz vs 800mhz), OS (4.1 vs 4.0) and the resolution. The phone doesn't even show up at ZTE's site so who really knows what the specs are.

The speculated LG even has Gingerbread on it. That is more like Tracfone.

I am only interested because I have a Safelink phone. As far as using a smartphone we have several iPhones on Airvoice for $10 a month.
