    AIO Free Phone Offer

I am considering switching to AIO and will need a SIM card.

I see they are offering a free Android phone right now.

Any reason I shouldn't take the free phone instead of paying $10 for a SIM card by itself? Are the phones locked to the SIM card they ship with? Any other restrictions to be aware of?

Does it matter? My question was more of a general "can I take the SIM out of that phone and put it in my unlocked device" question.

Yes, you can swap out the sim. The sims are not locked. You'll have a free phone, which after 4 months of service (with any device), can be unlocked.

Not according to the AIO Unlocking policy:

We'll provide the unlock code if you meet the following:
    • You're an Aio customer and your account is not cancelled.
    • Your device was purchased from Aio.
    • Your account has at least 4 months paid service using the device you want to unlock.
    • Your device hasn't been reported as lost or stolen.

Ok, may be wrong. Neither of the two Aio sims I currently use are locked. I rotate them amongst 3 devices. Without doubt the Aio phones are locked, but I don't think the sims are. I'm ordering one of these phones (to be thrown in a drawer) while the sim will be used in another phone. I don't think Aio will know (read: care) so long as I maintain service, but if I decide to get it unlocked (next year), I'll report back if I have problems.

You end up having to actually have service during that month. So if you're fine with porting in for 30 days, which ends up being 25 days. Then have at it. I'd rather buy the $10.00 sim card.

For online purchases, Aio doesn't sell sims alone, one month of service must be purchased. So $50 is the minimum order BYOP. The free phone is a good deal for those who want service, but not necessarily for those who just want a phone. You'll end up paying $55 for a locked phone.

Still looks like a cost savings for me. Rather than $10 for a SIM and $70 for the plan, I'd be paying $70 for the plan and getting a free phone and SIM card.

Yep, since you want the service anyway, it's basically a free phone for you.

I ordered one yesterday n seems like no shipping was added. 2nd day delivery to Hawaii. I bought the 55 plan. IDK if it comes with a sim. I'm probably use it as a back up plan.
