Nexus 5 on Straight Talk (using AT&T)

How has your experience been? I'm planning on pairing these two and I'm just curious how has been your experience been so far. Yay or nay?

Experience is good, you get decent LTE speeds in Chicago downtown and suburbs then again it is mostly dependent on the area you live and work. I get 12mbps down and 8mbps up average with 150ms pings. I never had the mms problem when I ported to new LTE sim and new apn which Iphone users are facing.

But the problem which I face is that I get delayed notification for gmail, whatsapp or any of the apps which use push messaging or Google cloud messaging. If you think about it you ll blame OS/Phone for it but what I read is people are facing this problem on iphone. I did not have this problem on my 1+ year old sim with Nexus 4 or Nexus 5. It started after porting to the new APN.

Not sure what ST are doing, since the data speeds etc are fine on the phone. I am normally on wifi both at work and home so the only time I notice delayed push is while I am driving or I am outside. So I have yet to check it in detail what the problem is.

Very good. Much more stable network connection than my old Galaxy Nexus. I don't have LTE locally, but I did test it driving by an area that had it. 2 bars and 22mpbs down, 6mpbs up with 160ms pings.

I noticed that I now have HOME and ROAM networks available under network settings. Sometimes the phone sets a notification to sign into the carrier cell network. Doesn't affect anything and just opens a browser window if you click it.

I never had any experience with it. But one of my friend was very happy using it.. He always said that I have a great downloading speed and never faced any problem regarding the downloading aspect. Also I think mms works really fast in it.

Do you have to cut the LTE SIM to a certain size in the Nexus 5? Like a Micro or Nano SIM?

Nexus 5 has a micro sim and you can get it directly from ST store.

I need help setting up my APN. I am currently at this site. http://www.straighttalk.com/wps/portal/home/support/apn. When it asks for phone type what did you guys use? The only thing I see that would be close is Android 4.0 & 4.1. It does not have the Nexus 5 listed. Thanks.

Where did you guys get your nexus 5 phones? At the play store it has always shown a 3 to 4 week wait on leaving the warehouse.

It *says* 3-4 weeks, but if you order one today, I bet you'll be using it inside of 2 weeks.

Off topic, but since switching to ST, I have noticed a big delay in receiving my GV texts. My tablet on Sprint seems to immediately get those messages, but my phone has major lags w/GV texts and gmail.

Ordered a Nexus 5 on announcement day. Installed a ST ATT SIM that I had been holding for about a month and boom, got 1 bar of LTE service at the house. Before, I used to get either 1 bar of Hspa something or other or nothing. Its only 1 bar but its constant and download speeds average around 5 down and 4 up. Much faster than Verizon's 2 bars which give me less than .5 on download/upload. I gave the Nexus to my brother and since I just won another courtesy of Howard Forums, I will also be switching to ST ATT LTE. Later Verizon.
