New AT&T Mobile share value plans

ATT has released new mobile share value plans, these are essentially like prepaid plans, without a contract, and work with BYOD(bring your own device) and seem like a reasonable alternative for those with a couple of lines on Gophone. agreed the data is less, and why does it matter to those on Gophone, well, i dont see how this is not undercutting Gophone? What is the point of a separate prepaid division if the Main brand is going to compete with it on both price and choice.
I suspect the very strong performance of Tmobile has lit a fuse under ATT, and this is their reponce to Tmo, but this undercuts their own cricket/AIO/Gophone divisions.

are any of you thinking of switching?

Yep. The $45 plan (1 smartphone) works for me.

Even though no contract sill needs credit check(and possible overage bills) which will push some towards prepaid

gotta really figure out the final cost:

ST=45/30 days, 2.5GB, online refills, no tax and added fees incurred.
AT&T 1 smart device=45$/mo, 300MB, sales tax, government fees will drive it close to 55$. (ding on your credit report)
GoPhone=54$/30 days (callingmart, seacrest) 2GB uncapped LTE

true, like i said, numbers look better for family plans, that is if you have 2 lines, right now if you have two lines, even with discount purchase on the gophone cards, you are looking at 110$, while att has 1gig for 95$, taxes extra, but still a hassle free experience. I cant see how this does not undercut Gophone plans. as for the LTE, it should be on both the plans. So except for the credit enquiry, unless you are a heavy user of data, these are very enticing plans for those already on the fence or on premier prepaid(monthly fixed payment like 60$ on gophone or $5$ on Straight Talk)

The extra taxes sure do add to the cost.

My state averages 18% of added fees and taxes so for me the 95$ 1 gig plan will push it to 112.10. With GoPhone we get 2 gig of unadultered LTE for each line rather than splitting 1 gig.
That's why I said prospective subscriber gotta do the math

I don't think these new plans are meant to combat prepaid or even tmobile (although they are the cause of all this shifting in the industry).

This is about overall competition. The lower off contract price encourages people to stay with the old phones longer, but also increases the value of Next. By saying a phone subsidy costs $15 a month for 24 months, people may be more inclined for Next or Next 18.

But it cant be about getting people to bring their own devices. Gophone already did this and with Aio/Cricket they are becoming competitive in that area of the market.

We here are in the 17% tax club which is steep.

However, corporate discounts are applied like postpaid which in most cases will mitigate the taxes and fees.

Elpidio, this is my new favorite way to describe GoPhone LTE.

    Thanks

I think the plans are designed to make customers feel like they're getting ripped off a little less. Too many folks started questioning why their rates didn't go down after their phone was"paid for". AT&T is trying to slow the growing migration to prepaid. Almost every week someone on HoFo posts "I'm a postpaid AT&T customer thinking of switching to..."

It also gives a little more incentive to use next, at least for me. Before this I would have never considered using next (or Verizon edge) but with lower price I'm more open to it.

I think there will still be a good demand for prepaid and postpaid taxes are ridiculous.
