    3G, 4G, and LTE?

My friend uses an iPhone4 and it runs off Sprint's 3G service and yet me I have Boost Mobile which also runs off Sprint and it' runs off Boost's LTE service on my iPhone5S. So why is my friend's phone running on 3G?

The Verizon and Sprint version of iPhone 4 and 4s can not pickup up 4g or LTE. It doesn't have the antennas for it. They are 1x and 3G only devices. The iPhone 5 and up do.

It is not the antenna. It is the receiver. One can have a television antenna but you can only watch programs if you have a device which can pick up and convert the signal to useful information.
