Hmm. That's interesting. That brings the pricing down a bit. Allows data averaging kind of too since you single data allowance looks to be spread over the entire three months. Would be harder to budget data though.

The public site makes mention of a 180 plan. Not 90. So I guess they changed their mind.

Explains what? I don't see any mention in there about 180 day plan... The rest was an observation/comment.

No observations just facts about new plans which do not have the 180 day plan included. I still have an account with them and am able to change to the new plans right now through self serve if I wanted to.

These plans give Public Mobile a purpose (whereas before, there was no plan you couldn't build better elsewhere).

Unlimited North American talk, unlimited Global text, and 12GB for the 90 days would cost the equivalent of $78.12 per month (after adjusting for the fact that this is 90 days rather than 3 months). Are there any 4GB monthly plans in that price range right now? Fido's got a 3GB plan for $75 if you BYOD, but that's without the U.S. calling this Public Mobile plan includes at that price (an extra $15 on Fido). Add in the fact that Public Mobile is prepaid, and that's pretty competitive. And the data averaging over the 90 days may help you avoid overage if your usage goes up and down from month to month.

I built the plan that way because it makes it similar to my old grandparented Fido unlimited North American retention plan which (when you added on the old $30/GB add-on, plus $11 for my Value Pack [which was necessary as the base plan included no voicemail, no caller ID, etc.]) cost me $91 per month. While I had two extra GB, I never once went over 2.5GB, and this plan probably (I didn't check) includes MMS which my old grandparented retention plan didn't. This is pretty impressive, honestly.

Here's the total cost of these plans averaged out to an equivalent monthly cost (remember, 90 days is not 3 months, so I've adjusted for that fact, leap years included). Also I list 1GB as 338MB (for example), but it's really 1GB over the 90 days which is a potential benefit if you have high months and low months, but for simplicity's sake I imagined that someone's data usage was constant.

North American Talk, Global Text, 338MB $42.61
North American Talk, Global Text, 1.35GB $52.76
North American Talk, Global Text, 2.03GB $59.52
North American Talk, Global Text, 4.06GB $78.12

If you drop to Provincial-wide talk you'd save $10.15
If you drop to Canada-wide talk, you'd save: $5.07
If you drop to Canada-wide text, you'd save $2.03

So, for example, if you want 2GB per month, are happy with Canadian-only text, and Provincial-only talk, then that'd cost you the equivalent of $47.34 per month. Dang! Now that kicks Chatr to the curb. You have to prepay for 90 days at a time, but there's enough cost savings and data averaging to make that worth it for some people. It blows Fido and Koodo out of the water. And it's prepaid! This is the first prepaid offer in Canada that comes anything close to approximating the value of Cricket. And this is the initial value, you can save a little bit more if you jump through their rewards hoops.

I hope the above math is helpful to someone out there. Took me about 20 minutes to figure it all out.

I was going to create a spreadsheet that would calculate everything based on someone's choices, but then realized the I didn't have quite all the data needed to create it (30 days with global text, and can/us calling, all 10 day info). If someone could provide that, I could toss together a form where you would choose from drop-downs and it would calculate your various prices and savings.

You want a complete list of the new Public Mobile 90 plans, including the $6/90 days auto-pay discount, averaged out as if they were monthly plans? You've got it! Here is (unless I missed one) every combination of 90 day plan that Public Mobile offers. I compared them to Chatr and found only one Chatr plan that could beat any of the new PM plans (if you're willing to go 90 days at a time), and it only includes 100 outgoing SMSs so you'd best be using Skype and Whatsapp.

    340 MB/month (ie 1 GB over 90 days)
$28.40 PM; Provincial talk, Can. text
$30.43 PM; Provincial talk, global text
$33.48 PM; Canadian talk and text
$35.51 PM; Canadian talk, Global text
$38.55 PM; N.A. talk, Canadian text
$40.58 PM; N.A. talk, Global text

$35 Chatr; Provincial talk, 100 outgoing SMS, 500MB (can double the data for the first 8 months with auto-pay enabled)

    1.35 GB/month (ie. 4 GB over 90 days)
$38.55 PM; Provincial talk, Can. text
$40.58 PM; Provincial talk, global text
$43.63 PM; Canadian talk and text
$45.66 PM; Canadian talk, Global text
$48.70 PM; N.A. talk, Canadian text
$50.73 PM; N.A. talk, Global text

    2.03 GB/month (ie. 6 GB over 90 days)
$45.31 PM; Provincial talk, Can. text
$47.34 PM; Provincial talk, global text
$50.39 PM; Canadian talk and text
$52.42 PM; Canadian talk, Global text
$55.46 PM; N.A. talk, Canadian text
$57.49 PM; N.A. talk, Global text

    4.06 GB/month (ie. 12 GB over 90 days)
$63.91 PM; Provincial talk, Can. text
$65.94 PM; Provincial talk, global text
$68.99 PM; Canadian talk and text
$71.02 PM; Canadian talk, Global text
$74.06 PM; N.A. talk, Canadian text
$76.09 PM; N.A. talk, Global text

I've got to say, I'm impressed. $57.49 for unlimited North American talk, unlimited global text, and 2GB (plus effectively a 3 month rollover period)? I value calling features (voice-to-text, Rogers One Number/Telus Extend, Name Display, etc.) so Public Mobile doesn't suit me, but I'm unusual and I think this will suit a lot of people. There are some people I will recommend it to, in fact.

Here's hoping they don't change these plans anytime soon, after all this work tonight.

Haha, I was going to let a spreadsheet do all that, but that works, thanks!

Not looking too terrible for most people, but I'm kinda special...
Koodo Unl Canadian Talk, Intl Text, 5GB data - $32.50
Fido Unl Canadian Talk (no VM), Intl Text, 1GB - $22.50
Both of those have Nexus 5's under contract.

I did make a spreadsheet, then copied the results into HoFo. I also took the opportunity to adjust from 90 days down to an equivalent monthly average, and also for leap years by basing it on a year with 365.25 days. I did factor in the auto-pay discount, but none of the other reward opportunities.

PM's new plans are even surprisingly competitive against SK/MB plans. They cost a little more, but not so much more that I couldn't see myself paying for them instead in exchange for the certainty that I wouldn't face an audit down the road. And thanks to Shaw's and Telus' expansive free public WiFi networks in Western Canada, I don't know anyone out here who needs more than a gig or two, so there's the potential to save money vs. SK/MB plans. There's the fact that its prepaid, which is an advantage for some, and data grouping over the 90 days, which is an advantage if your usage varies from month to month.

I'm on a Big 3 share plan, shared enough ways that we got the line average down to $38 per line, plus shared data at $10/2GB. At that rate it's $48 for 2.1 GB, $58 for 4.1 GB, $68 for 6.1 GB, $78 for 8.1 GB, $88 for 10.1GB, etc. Pretty competitive when one considers the feature advantages of the big 3 share plans (voice-to-text as an option, better U.S. roaming rates, etc.).

So I won't be switching to PM. But I know some people who will be, and I'll be recommending I do. It'll come down to features. If they need advanced calling features, then they should consider a "share" plan shared a lot of ways. If they don't need that, then Public Mobile is suddenly the best thing going (aside from SK/MB plans, and even in some cases better than them).

Heck, I'd been advocating going dual-SIM to get the best deals, and right now PM is even competitive with the deals you can cobble together with dual-SIM ($35/5GB plus talk and text options varying from $8-33 per month).

These plans are the biggest rip off since the death of Public Mobile.

Why not just get the $38 QC Koodo plan than going through all the hurdles? Its a promo plan and offers Unlimited Canada-Wide talk + International Text + 1GB Data.

Telus is charging outrageous amount of money for absolutely nothing = $10 for 30 days, $25 for 90 days, if one really wants to save a # and not pay the other fee's why not just port to a service like freephoneline or similar?

Also no combination comes to close (30day or 90 day) to Koodo MB/SK $48 plan which offers WAY more than what PM.

So my ask to Telus....Why don't you just kill the brand already? No point in causing dealer and consumer headaches with all that mess of plans...
