Nice! I figured it would be spotted somewhere in that area. I bet it is live on other sites between Midland and Saginaw as well.

It's time for them to tap into band 5, it will certainly take some pressure off 13

I'm in Lincoln too and me and my friends call it "band 5 jail". Seems like its either super overloaded, or just a very small slice of airwave. Speed tests on band 5 are 2-4mbps down, and in the same spot if i can get on b2 or b4 i will be 15-20mbps down. But my phone almost always picks band 5 before band 13 which is kind of annoying.

Interesting. I haven't noticed it being any slower when I am connected to it. Of course, I've only seen it on N 27th St near Superior, so it may be dependent on the tower, also.

Interesting, I haven't noted anything different when I use my mom's phone and I live off Central/Northern. It works fine but 1X calls aren't super clear and her GS3 only has band 13 obviously so the speeds are slooooow.

Yeah, that whole biltmore area isn't good on any carrier I've used going through it. Very spotty on any phone that I can recall.

They really need to shut down most of the 1X and EVDO - way too much live at this point.
Honestly, the very fact that your 1x calls are not particularly clear probably suggests that the 1x in the area is still heavily used and you wouldn't want it shut down yet at all.
In Iowa City, they have all 1x and EVDO on 1 800mhz block (the only other spectrum they have is 700mhz C block, and recently they got a block of AWS from I don't know where..) The 1x quality is "meh" -- not spectacular but not bad. Outside town, the 1x quality is fine until you get to "zero bars" signal strength.
I'm sure the time is coming though, more and more phones support VoLTE (edit: and LTE on PCS and 850) so eventually there could be 1 1.25x1.25 1x channel, and the rest of the 800mhz band LTE.

To my understanding most EvDO is in PCS with 1X being on 850. PCS refarming is not complete to my understanding
Yeah, when 3G was being rolled out, they did not want to unnecessarily risk their 1x voice reliability; so in markets with both cellular and PCS, they put 1x on 850 and EVDO on PCS. (They have put 1x on both 850 and PCS in a few markets where they needed more 1x channels.)

I honestly hope they keep a sliver of 1x for good.
I know for sure they plan to until.. I forget what they've said most recently..2021? I'm guessing past that they would keep 1 channel up anyway, since it only takes a 1.25mhz slice (although I do like that idea of running a 1.4mhz LTE channel in the guard band for range.)

Finally tapping in to their 50mhz Of 850 spectrum , it's about time.
