    Extend range of Mifi 6620L

    Hello all.

I have a Mifi 6620L that I would like to extend the range to serve my house better for devices on two levels. My home is a split level that is open to all levels rather than a true two story. I have seen setups for sale that are $300-$500 but I cannot invest that much right now. I do have a magnetic type cell antenna from an older device but am waiting for the correct FME adapter for this device. Is there a cheap-ish extender that I can put in my home to get a better range for the Mifi?

I also have a Cradlepoint MBR1000 router that I used years ago with a Verizon USB 3G modem. Can I plug the 6620L into that and get better range?

Thanks so much for your help!

The 6620L's WiFi is pitiful. I USB tether my 6620L to a Craddlepoint MBR1200B for at home usage. It works beautifully with IPv4 connectivity.

On the 6620L, go to the admin page at http://192.168.1.1 Select Settings -> Jetpack -> Preferences -> Micro USB Connection: USB tether (Wi-Fi on).

It might work with your older MBR1000. Give it a shot.

Thanks! I checked Cradlepoint's site and this unit is not supported on my MBR1000. It seems to be working well enough at this moment so I will wait and see before spending any more $ on the newer MBR1200.

    No need for $300-$500.

You can configure an inexpensive Wifi router as a repeater bridge with dd-wrt. Some routers native software may also have repeater bridge, though it may not be called repeater bridge exactly.

There are hundreds of wall-wart Wifi range extenders like a Netgear WN3000RP from $20 and up that are supposed to be easy to set up. I have not tried any personally.

You will lose some speed because the repeater or extender has to shuttle the data between itself and the clients and between the itself and the Mifi.

    Good luck
