How seamless is GV to Fi transition? Back?

OK I want to give Fi a try, but I depend on my Google Voice number for work. I have it on business cards, whole company has that number etc. Would be a big problem if the GV number stopped working.

How smooth is the transition to Fi?

What if I don't like coverage and need to come back?

    Any tips?

Is it risky enough that I should I give it a try on a different Google account to check coverage?

I have a Pixel and I also want to add the free data only SIM on a 6P (basically only want Google maps / GPS, hangouts etc)

I've tried the T-Mobile free 200mb/mo SIM in my Nexus 7 and I wasn't so thrilled at coverage out in the country of South Carolina but I think we have a decent CDMA network out there I couldn't see on that plan.

I converted my GV number to Fi... no problems. Coverage should be good in SC. Streaming on the move can be problematic as the phone will occasionally drop to Sprint 1x which is useless.

Transition is very easy. Took a couple hours to totally transition from GV to Fi. Took exactly 24 hours to transition from Fi back to GV. No problems. You port from Fi to GV from the Fi side when you cancel service, so real easy.

FYI, the data SIM works ONLY on T-Mobile, even if you have it in a supported device such as 6P.

Didn't know that about the data only SIM. Also AT&T just gave the $40 plan 4GB of data. Think I'll just tether and continue on as is.

How seamless is GV to Fi transition? Back?

The only wrinkle, in my experience, is that text messages may be lost for a few minutes immediately after the port goes through.
