Network here is weak. No changes that I know of since '14. There have been two municipal approvals for new sites in the last year, neither of which has begun construction. One is a small AWS frequency cell atop a church on the West side and the other a macro tower to serve northeast Ridgewood. Hard to expand with macro towers here because of the nimby's. The NE Ridgewood tower has been delayed for some reason. I will be curious to see what kind of solution Verizon offers there.

New Small Cell at Walmart in Burlington, NC. This area was a 1 bar B13 signal that was unusable. Now has 4/13 with small cells outside in the parking lot and inside of the Walmart as well. Still need to deploy more as when you go from the parking lot, you are back on an overloaded B13 signal.

Verizon has severe congestion problems on band 13 in many areas. T-Mobile is having the same issue with band 12 only areas. I've seen many areas where T-mobile had good band 12 signal but data was unusable due to congestion. If there is no band 4 signal nearby on T-Mobile or Verizon, their low bands are just utter crap now.

That's why Verizon should of went after more low band in the 600 MHz auction. Band 5 LTE should be deployed across most of the nation ( in a 5x5 MHz channel) by now. T-Mobile having wideband 600 is going to be quite a force in the next several years.

I've never seen any band 5 LTE in the northeast, so I'd say no, they are barely getting started.

I'm not far from you, I'm in Lowell, MA. I have seen a ton of band 5 LTE on AT&T but I have yet to see any band 5 LTE on Verizon.

If this is relation to small cells they're mostly relying on B4 and B2 deployments at the moment. Any low band spectrum, B13/B5 and the like, seems restricted to macros. I've seen some older small cells on B13 but that was just when they were trying to get a little more coverage. They're converting all of those to B4 and B2.

B5 is next on the radar but that will be in the coming year or so. The new equipment is finished being developed so the deployment is on the horizon.

Yes, a new small cell near my house is band 4. I am close enough to get 2-3 dots (never checked actual dBm level) and the speeds are great. Usually get 45-90 MB/s depending on load and time of day.

Every small cell in Chicago has B13, and many of them now have B5. I'm kinda surprised to see that, but It makes sense if they use these small cells for in-fill coverage and not just added capacity. Those ones with B5 are quad band now.

A lot of the small cells around me are band 13 only and seem targeted for improving in building coverage or taking soaking up the load from inside buildings in populated downtowns.

No B5 from Verizon that I've noticed in ME/NH/RI/MA/CT/NY.

    I've seen AT&T B5 though.

Is there a map to show where Verizon has band 5 LTE licenses?
