MiFi 6620L Firmware Update when not on VZW?

    Hello,

I have a Verizon Jetpack MiFi 6620L. Is it possible to update the firmware on the unit without connecting to the Verizon network? Obviously I ask this because I'm using the device on a different network..

    Thanks!

No, it isn't sorry. The FOTA server is only accessible with a Verizon SIM.

Does the line have to be active on the SIM? Or does it just have to be a Verizon SIM to get to the server?

    How can anybody be enlightened?
Truth is after all so poorly lit

So, data SIMs on Verizon now are supposed to register and connect to the network. This allows you to sign up for new service with a new/old SIM. I am not sure if FOTA will work in that state, but it's worth a try. They also offer a free month trial (though I'm not sure that's still active).

However, a smartphone SIM that has been deactivated, I suspect that won't work as when they are deactivated they may be permanently disabled.

I figured that was likely the case but thought it wouldn't hurt to ask..

    Thanks!
