Cricket Wireless Microsoft Lumia 640 Windows 10 Mobile Update

I found out the hard way that you have to use the upgrade advisor in order to install the windows 10 mobile update for the Cricket Wireless Microsoft Lumia 640. I am posting this to let people know about the update and how to install it since Cricket Wireless has this phone on sale and I assume that people will be missing out on Windows 10 Mobile if they do not know how to get the update. Here is the link. https://www.cricketwireless.com/cont...ows_update.pdf

This update bricked my phone. Good thing it's an extra phone lying around. Will restore again later.
Get $25 credit by switching to Cricket Wireless! Then $250 by referring others! Same AT&T signal! Click here!

Worked fine for me on four 640s. I think the "some settings are managed..." Message is standard language in the update. I saw it on all four devices, but they all show the new version was installed.

Cricket Wireless Microsoft Lumia 640 Windows 10 Mobile Update

My issue is if I click on icons it won't open. For example setting and phone. The phone is useless.

I'm trying a hard reset now.

It sounds like the windows 10 update did not install correctly. I would use the windows device recovery tool to restore your phone back to windows mobile 8.1 update 2. I would reinstall the upgrade advisor and install windows 10 mobile again. Sometimes a glitch like what you experienced can happen during a software update.

What update is it? I'm on the fast development ring. I have never put my Cricket Sim in my Lumia 640xl. It's on Lycamobile for calls and texts and I put an att data Sim in the other slot.

So I haven't been on Windows Phone since it was still Windows Mobile (based on windows CE). I was a huge Windows Mobile / Pocket PC fan at the dawn of Smartphones, but when WP came out and lost support for all my legacy apps, I jumped ship to Android.

I'm not planning on giving up Android, but with the Lumia 640 so cheap, I've been considering getting one just to see where the OS has gone. What can you do with them, aside from just basic phone / email things? Are they worth getting to play around with, or using as a camera etc? Easy to unlock (so my kids can use with freedompop sim cards)? Overall, I'm wondering how people feel about Windows Phone... I know its losing market share, but the Palm Pre was pretty awesome even when HP pulled the plug... there was plenty that device was still good for, at least a year or two after everyone stopped caring.
Been gone a long time. Hello, HoFo- I'm BACK.
