please check your software version on the phone and post the info ... if it is prior to 6.11 .. it can be unlockd!

the way to check it is: *#5190#

    it will display something like:
    V. 6.10
    25-02-01
    NSB-1
[note: i made these #z up .. but that is how it loox]

just post your version and your location ... and i'll tell you how u can unlock it ..

but try phoning fido and see if they will swap your EPSION-locked 5190 for a FIDO-locked 5190 ...

If the firmware is version 5.83 or lower you can use a cable and a program called Nokall to unlock. If it is above that you have to either have an unlock code or find someone with a flash calbe and the appropriate software to unlock the phone.

    Try to contact Nokia.

If your phone company went bankrupt but your phone is locked to that network, try to contact Nokia to see if they are willing to unlock the phone for you.

One way would be to use another SIM from a competing carrier. If it says 'SIM card not accepted' then the handset is locked.

v6.11 can NOT be unlocked via an MBUS cable ...

but DO try a fidoSIM in it .. it may be network-locked and that means u can just toss a FIDO sim and use it as is ..

if that dont work .. then u will need to try and get fido to swap it for u ... they will/should .. as espion was a partner of microcelCNX

    SIMM card not accepted

Unfortunately my Nokia 5190 doesn't accept the SIMM card from
    FIDO.
So I'll try to contact Nokia and see what can be done.

Thanks all Exprerts for the answers!

    best regards!

I've got an old 5190 with V5.51 software.

How do i unlock the phone with a MBUS cable??

Also, if I unlock the phone and then go to a Fido flagship store to get the firmware updated, will the phone get locked??

You need a program called Nokall. Do a google search and you can find it. If you have V. 5.51 firmware you can use it. Any firmware above 5.83 it will not work and you risk making your phone unuseable.

If your phone is unlocked when you get it flashed it will not be locked after you get it flashed to the later version of the firmware.
If you are going to unlock it with an mbus cable do it before you have the phone flashed to the newer firmware.
