The issue that Samsung has with the Galaxy line is just lack of software updates. Also, disabling LTE frequencies at carrier request so you can't take it anywhere else. Quit bending to the carrier and look more at the consumer for what they really want.

For $720 and up, not one bit. That is a mortgage payment. I may consider one when they are a couple of generations old. By then we may know if they explode. The S7s hit the news this week for exploding a year after release.

Rocking an S4 for now. It only cost $130 a year ago.

What are the prospects for rooting the S8, preferably in a way that doesn't invalidate the warranty? (I've never had a Samsung smartphone, so I don't know their approach to this issue.)

I own a phone company and (3) retail stores and I always have a phone that's about a generation old. I can't see spending the ridiculous prices for these phones when they first hit the market.

I personally use a Samsung Galaxy S4 (PCS) with a ZeroLemon battery pack for my business line and an LG v10 with a battery pack on the (CDMA) network for my personal phone. I got my v10 right as the v20 was being launched. In a few weeks, I'll probably switch to a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (once everyone finances a new S8 and leaves the S7 for the newest toy).

    I like your thinking bobdevnul!

Thank you. I don't spend money. I invest it. I think it is perfectly ridiculous to spend $800 every year or two for the newest toy to be jammed in my pocket with the coins and keys. My $30 Phoenix 2 and S4 work just fine. It's a phone, not a status symbol. The balance in my investments accounts give me much more satisfaction than some stupid overpriced tech toy.
