Anyone know if the new iPhone 8 & x will support bellus 4CA? Specs say they are 4CA enabled..but doesn't it also need to have 256 QAM to work on belus?

It won't need 256QAM, CA will work without it (using QPSK, 16QAM, 64QAM). Having 256QAM will boost peak speeds by approximately 30-33%.

Also the specific CA combos need to be determined. They may not necessarily support B2-B4-B7-B7.

I don't see that combo available, at least on the A1897
model. The highest throuput combo would be 2-4-29-30.

I'll see if I can find he list for other models.

Anyone know why my phone seems to default on band 7 most of the time? It has the weakest coverage out of all the bands.

It has the highest camping priority precisely because it has the smallest coverage.

Yeah...I've noticed that whenever band 7 is available, my phone connects to it. Unfortunately my Honor 8 doesn't have CA support for band 7.

Why doesn't Telus make band 2 the default instead? It only connects to other bands once the signal is low enough. Sometimes it connects to band 30 when it's available

I don't think they need to do this necessarily, they just need to adjust the cutoff.
Not sure if its coincidence or not, but Rogers had this issue before. Phones used to camp on B7 until the signal was very low, then it would basically lose signal and go through the whole search process. This resulted in missed calls and much higher battery drain. Now it barely seems to go onto B7 unless conditions are ideal (i.e being outdoors or near a window).

Perhaps it is a Huawei RAN recommendation/best practice to force everyone to a higher band as much as possible, but that doesn't seem necessary with all the spectrum the big 3 have.

Because no one would ever use B7 in that case. I agree with zivan, they just need to tweak the A2 thresholds for B7.

It's been hard to go on low bands as well. At the gym, B2 and B4 get really low, I lose signal before I finds B17 or B5. I hate this.

Agree, it's the same for me. I'll bring it up to Bell and Telus engineers next time I have a chance to talk to them.

Share the same sentiments as above. I'm glad Samsung phones let you BLOCK LTE bands from being used. I blocked 4 and 7 lol magically my battery life has improved significantly and LTE signal bars are full wherever I go. Was so irritated to see it go from LTE to HSPA indoors and back. Waste of battery.

How do you use it? Do you still get 4x carrier aggregation without band 7?

Hi, I have Galaxy S7 so it doesn't support 4CA. But I don't think you can have 4CA without band 7...
