    Drop in Verizon Coverage

I live in an area that is not native Verizon coverage, however, Verizon has an agreement with the local carrier to treat me like I'm in native coverage. My phone had been saying "Verizon" for carrier. About 2 weeks ago that changed to "Extended" and now the coverage is awful. Anybody else have this same issue?

No. I know other people with Verizon in my area have the same issue. I was really wondering if others were having the same issue with other carriers in rural areas.

I am in NW North Carolina. I have issues in 2 counties and they just happen to be the counties I work in and live in.

    Do you have VoLTE?
Could it be they had a disagreement and lost the Rural America agreement?
I'd Google your local area news, maybe something has been reported.

If it was service from Carolina West (which Verizon used to partner with) this could have something to do with it?

"Carolina West Wireless and Chat Mobility have joined the CCA Device Hub (Hub). In addition to enabling carriers to better manage their device portfolios from end-to-end, the Hub, in partnership with Sprint, gives participating CCA carrier members the opportunity to access a broader ecosystem of devices, which can lower costs and improve time-to-market for the benefit of carriers and their subscribers."

    Drop in Verizon Coverage

Which this worries me now, because I live in Eastern NC and visit the mountains quite frequently and loved the coverage I got from Verizon when I was there.

Can anyone else that lives in this area chime in on if anything has changed with service?

I wonder if Verizon is dropping some of their roaming agreements to save some cash or because they plan to build out native coverage there eventually.

Yeah that could explain what has happened. It's probably the only problem Verizon has with it's rural America program. If the hardware they're using is compatible with another carriers spectrum. The carrier providing the hardware could change leasing partners.
Does anyone know what ramifications there are if this was to occur?

The map does show Extended on the prepaid / voice / messaging categories. That's near Jefferson, Scottville,.......

On a positive note, it shows the area as 4GLTE - at least at the moment. Rural Partnership I reckon. VoIP calls should work using data.

I had the same thing happen to me awhile back and from my understanding Verizon has an agreement with the carrier I roam on. Although, my coverage wasn't affected. I updated my IOS and that fixed it. I went from IOS 8xx to 9.3.3 and everything is still working. I upgraded my phone and it also works. It's on 10.2.1. Not sure if updating the software will fix it, just stating it did in my situation.

Here's the thread I started about it.

Don't do that on 4g phones! You will need to replace sim if you update.

That's for CDMA-only devices. That will mess up LTE devices.

Edit: didn't see the post above.
