    Text messaging is not working on my Moto Z

    Just sent texts to my email and didn't receive them

    What happens if you send to you own phone # or another phone? Do calls work?

    Texts to an email address go out as mms on my phone. I have to make sure data is on.

    It's a Verizon phone that's unlocked for At&t. Would that make a difference

    Is data turned on??
    You need that for MMS, texts to email.

    When sending a text to your own phone, usually it is an SMS and only needs cell service.

    Does mobile data work on this phone?

    Are you using a AT&T or Verizon SIM? If AT&T, did you configure the APN settings on this phone - necessary for mobile data and MMS to work?

    As others wrote, mobile data has to be on to text to an email address.

    Since the other thread says AT&T, I agree that the APN not being set or cellular data being off are likely causes.

    I don't think this issue is related to TracFone, so you need to hunt down Verizon Moto Z threads and ask there at this point to have a better chance of getting a solution.

    Try saving the APN settings with both airplane mode on and off in case that makes a difference.

    You may also want to try a factory reset if you don't find any other solution.

    I read awhile back that some Moto users were getting the APN error you describe with the Marshmallow update. One of them said that, after entering new APN, they hit the "Back" button instead of "Save" and their new APN appeared and they were able to choose it.

    Someone also said that they Turned "Data" off, WiFi on, and turned off the phone. Took out SIM and restarted. Went into APN settings and got rid of everything. Turned off phone, inserted SIM and restarted. Turned off WiFi and turned on Data. It updated the APN settings. I am not sure what Network they were using.

    Do I put in settings specifically for the phone or tracfone
