    Verizon 3G Shutdown?

Did anyone else notice that the 3G coverage map changed recently? It looks as though 850MHz 3G has been shut down across most of the country.

Look at the huge loss of 3G coverage in some areas compared to LTE:

    Arizona:

    Nebraska:

    South Dakota:

    Wisconsin:

    Florida:

It's not shutdown. 850 MHz is the only CDMA left for vzw in my area and, in some Buildings VZW drops to 1x or 3G. VZW could thin out 850 MHz for LTE but, no shutdown yet.

It was definitely shut down in some areas. Look at that loss of coverage.

Imho it's more likely that they have dropped a large roaming agreement than them shutting down 3G towers.
They are reducing 3G capacity but they can do that now since there is pretty much nothing still using it.

This isn't roaming, this is native Verizon 3G disappearing from the map.

Phoenix now has a bunch of holes with 1x or no service:

Northeastern Florida now has a ton of Extended 1x instead of native 3G that was there before:

    Even Disney World:

If Verizon is shutting down 3G on such a wide scale, they need to be notifying customers.

More like the maps are showing coverage more accurately. It was never that widespread. There are places on those maps that don't even a single tower, never did.

Not true. There are many 3G towers that I know for a fact existed and have been removed from the map. This is either a huge map error, or they're shutting down 3G in some areas.

Even LTE coverage is disappearing from the map. Look at all the "no service" spots all over Phoenix.

Ok? Who cares about flip phones? At some point you have to upgrade..... just like my mom did when she had to get rid of her Analog flip phone.

There's a T-Mobile based LTE flip phone. I checked it out.... seems pretty sweet. There are some people who refuse to have a smartphone. Nothing wrong with that. If that's what they want, let it be.

Not everyone will upgrade. My Dad still uses one and, I have other family members who still use them. If Carriers stop offering flip phones them my family that uses them will cancel their cell Accounts before upgrading to a smartphone.

    @andben2

I do I can leave it in my pocket with my keys and not worry about how scratched up the screen gets and it actually works as a phone!
The phone is core everything else is an app.

With all the new smart phones computer is core and the phone is an app.

I need my phone to work as a phone above all else I don't have time to hunt for the phone app when something happens.

Flip phones are also pretty good about not butt dialing people.

If I switch to a smartphone I will lose my discount and my line fee will double from $20/mo to $40/mo

That's the ZTE cymbal it unofficially also works on verizon.
