What don't I understand about Iphone locking?

while I've learned a lot about apple unlocked recently..

I was wondering if there was something else that I don't know..???

my almost 2 year old sprint iphone 5s is pretty useless to me cause yah it's locked to sprint and I don't have them anymore.. and of course I just realized if it was unlocked.. then yah I could put a verizon or att/truphone sim in..

So is there no recourse for a old phone like this.. or can I just call it sprint? or do I just need to sell it?

how would you go about getting it unlocked/useful phone???

It never hurts to try. The worst Sprint can say is NO

yah I decided to just search ebay for "iphone unlock" bunch of providers come up at $.01 and .70.. you happen to know what their selling or if they're just selling nothing?

Not sure why mine is $53.. and others are not? ah narrowed it down by adding search "sprint" now I got range of $10-$17

this is the $10 one.. not sure this one's any good though when it's in a price bracket all by itself.. my iphone I paid retail price for virgin mobile.. so don't think I qualify as blacklist and the other weird ones..

Prices differ by carrier and device and the status of the device (lost, stolen, unpaid, in contract, inactive, etc)

The $10 you have a link for is a magic sim never had any hands on experience with that item at all so I wouldn't be able to tell you anything at all about it.

thanks anyway.. just perusing my options pending a failure with sprint or virgin but it'd be nice to put this phone in service again even if it's outdated.. wow that magic sim video is quite interesting.. if that things really works.??. it's worth some mulla...

If you have used it for 12 months of paid service on Virgin Mobile, call and ask them to unlock it for you for free. Here's the page where they say the 5S is unlockable and it lists the criteria for an unlock:

I tend to agree with this because when I got my 5S from cricket back at end of 2015 it ran very well I had no issues but like you said the updates slow the phone down sadly

Apple (and others companies) would not intentionally code gradual slow downs/obsolescence into each update to encourage people to update to new phones over time .. .. . Or would they .

I have sold an old iPhone 5S for $125 on Nextdoor. The phone was originally free under the old 2 year old contract. Very few Android phones except for a few niche phones would have a similar used value.
