Question SIM Cards Used More Than Once?

Can a SIM Card be used more than once, on various accounts? Like if I am with MetroPCS with one phone number, then had to switch providers and went with Straight Talk, can I use the same SIM Card or no?

No. You'll have to get one from your new provider.

Most carriers give SIM cards to their new customers at no cost. No need to recycle old SIM cards. Some older SIM cards will not work in newer phones with newer technologies. For example, if you have an LTE handset using an older 3G SIM, it will not work on LTE.

I have successfully reused a deactivated VZW SIM. Saved me a trip to a store.

In general though, the answer is usually "deactivated SIMs can't be reused."

It would be unusual for a SIM from one provider to work with another provider. Might happen with an MVNO that is using the same underlying carrier. The IMSI (stored on the SIM) includes the MCC/MNC of the carrier.

So whenever you get a NEW SIM Card you have to get a new phone number as well right?

No. The carriers can attach an existing phone number to a new SIM. Happens all the time when SIM cards get damaged or someone needs a different size SIM.

When you get a new SIM, you do end up with a different IMSI.

Oh I see. Well I know my iPhone only can take the Nano SIM right? No other types will fit or work for it?

The type of SIM card that your phone can use is determined by the size of the the SIM slot on the phone with current handsets. I am not certain that current phones use anything but Nano SIM cards any longer. A few years ago there were at least 3 different sized SIM cards but they did the same thing.

You can buy them at the Apple Store for $5 each. I bought 2 a few months back for an upcoming trip to Europe. I didn't enroll in any Euro carrier plans, but they were available in my Cellular Carrier selection the same as the data options for free T-Mobile 200Mb upgrades. PM me for additional info on this if you wish.

That is correct, though the Apple Sim will only work in certain iPads only and aren't designed for iPhones, as they are data only.

That is a good point I forgot about. I have an iPad Air 2, and 2 Mini 4's, hence my oversight.

    Check your PM's.

Interestingly, when I went to the Apple Store, the first few reps had no idea what I was talking about when I asked for an Apple Sim Card for purchase.

On my old provider Safelink Wireless, they used Net10 Wireless as their main source but said Net10/Tracfone ran off Tmobile so if I got an unlocked Net10 SIM Card I can insert it and get the Safelink service put on said card. It worked for a while then they cut off my service for other reasons.

Since that Net10 SIM Card runs off Tmobile and is unlocked, can I use that same SIM Card with my new provider Tag Mobile who also uses Tmobile's service, or would I need to buy a NEW unlocked SIM Card and get my current service activated that way for my iPhone5s device.
