    port mobile number to google voice

    I have an existing google voice account with a phone number I got several years ago. Now I want to port my mobile number to the account (replacing the existing phone number). So I choose "Change/port", then "I want to use my mobile number". I enter my mobile number, click "Check for available options" and I get "Connection error. Please try again".

    So I tested several different phone numbers, and they all return the same "Connection error...".

    Has anybody beat this error? Has anybody successfully ported their mobile number via the "Change / Port" option to replace their existing google voice number with their mobile number?

    P.S. I just tried several different phone numbers, and they all return "Connection error", so there must be a problem with porting in Google voice now.

    Unfortunately, this seems to be a common problem. You can look on the Google forums, but in the past, I think the problem has cleared up after a few days.

    I successfully ported a # into GV over a year ago, and I did not experience this problem.

    Looks like it's fixed then. When I made that screen shot earlier it was coming back with that error.

    As you mentioned, it's a crap shoot. Google voice porting goes up and down often. No issues with the land line we ported in (by way of gophone) back in march.

    Just successfully ported my mobile phone to my google voice (well, I got past the connection error that I had earlier this morning, paid my $20, and it is supposed to be complete within 24 hours).

    It will be 24 hours right to the second. If it doesn't happen right then there is something wrong.

    I thought you were kidding about it happening exactly 24 hours, but I just got the email that the port is complete, and it has been exactly 24 hours.
