Verizon has confirmed that they are throttling Netflix as a "test". Not sure if it will be removed after they complete "testing".
"We've been doing network testing over the past few days to optimize the performance of video applications on our network," a Verizon spokesperson told DSLReports.com. "The testing should be completed shortly. The customer video experience was not affected."

They could have tested it on their own Go90 video service. Oh wait, nobody uses that.

But there are people that need their coverage. Verizon works in a few places I go to where AT&T doesn’t. And you can forget about T-Mobile and Sprint. I get a good deal with prepaid and don’t really want to give it up. But Verizon doesn’t even care about prepaid, I think.

Problem is not everyone can. They are a utility first and foremost (as much as they like to deny that...) and many people need the coverage they offer. If I didn't have them I wouldn't have acceptable service from any carrier.

I can't stand Verizon and AT&T because of all the years they were gouging their customers and all the things they tried to get away with, but I have to agree with Gus. I have Verizon because they have by far the best coverage at my house and most places I go to. I have them out of necessity, not out of love, LOL. Same goes for my home internet. I have Comcast and boy do I hate them. But I need internet service and they are the only player in town.

    Great news everyone!

YT stats for nerds showed a video loading at roughly 5,400 KB/s translating to 43.2 Mbps.

Looks like we're back to unthrottled video streaming! (For now)

There is a new HD Video Optimization SFO in the system. Something is up.

someone earlier in the thread mentioned that verizon said that this SFO was applied to all accounts 'accidentally'. it must've been removed if people are reporting that the throttle has been removed.

maybe verizon is planning a discount for throttled video like AT&T? maybe charging more for unthrottled video? it's not like anyone is really going to stop them.

I think they will have 2 tiers like AT&T probably similar pricing too.

Seems ok if they follow in AT&T's footsteps then and dock off $20-30 for 4 lines then. 4 lines on ATT Unlimited Plus is $185/mo and Unlimited Choice for 4 lines is $155/mo.
