Help! Can't use LG Phoenix 2 in Taiwan

I have a prepaid AT&T LG Pheonix 2 (K371) that I have unlocked and used with T-Mobile. I took the phone to Taiwan and bought a Taiwan Mobile SIM. The phone won't register.

I have confirmed that the phone has detected the SIM and I also checked the band that there is a 4G (UMTS, non-LTE) band that should be compatible. While searching for network, I only see a network with no name, just a 5 digits number. And it cannot be registered.

Did you set the APN for the Taiwan SIM?

    The Phoenix 2 has:
    GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz

    UMTS: 850, 1900, 2100 MHz

    LTE (FDD): Bands 2, 4, 5, 12, 29

I don't know what Taiwan uses.

    Found this:

LG K371 K Series Phoenix 2 GoPhone 4G LTE (LG M1V) is compatible with 2 out of 4 bands on Taiwan Mobile (Taiwan). See the tables below for details.
    * A matching frequency band does not guarantee coverage. There may be additional network or device software restrictions that prevent a device from connecting on a certain frequency. Additionally, certain bands may only be available regionally within a country.

What are you going to do? Try another SIm card?

The issue is that the Phoenix 2 really doesn’t support HSPA 2100 (Band 1), despite what the specs say about supporting Band 1.

There are a number of people, including me, who’ve tried this device in Europe anticipating 3G service on Band 1, and got nothing or just 2G service.

Are you sure the cellular settings is at GSM?
Get $25 credit by switching to Cricket Wireless! Then $250 by referring others! Same AT&T signal! Click here!

If op thinks this is an option, try www.willmyphonework.net as the provider might matter/help.

Very sorry to hear it, have you considered renting a mifi and using VoIP like Gvoice or whatsapp? It's a stopgap but might help you get voice calls to the US. Would work over wifi. Skype for example or FB messenger might be options.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think hightechnology is probably right. I also learned that the 2G in Taiwan Mobile has been turned off. The behavior of the phone seems that there is no compatible frequency. It is not just data, even voice call is not possible. So it is not the APN. I ended up getting a loaner phone.

I am currently in Taiwan using T - Star. My iPhone seems to be using Bands 7 and 8. I know it’s not very useful to you, just a data point.
