Koodo offers me data add-on deal - is there a catch?

    Hello,

I'm in Nova Scotia on a grandfathered plan that originally came with 2 GByte of data and where I was later given an extra 500 MB a month for free. My data overage is 2 cents/Mbyte, so just over $20 per GByte. Usually that's enough, but last month I had a few dollars data overage. No problem with that.

I can not seem to add any data add-ons through self serve.

Today, Koodo offered me to add 500 MBytes for $5 1 Gbyte for $10 per month. I could maybe use an extra GByte this month, and likely next month, too.

But I wonder: Is there any catch? Will my free 500 MBytes add on vanish? Will my 2 cents data overage be changed?

And can I cancel the new add-on any time? The text message I have received doesn't clarify any of that.

Your $0 500MB add on feature would likely need to be removed. I am pretty sure you can only have a single data add on feature active.
Your data overage rate should not change as it's part of your base plan. You will only lose that overage rate if changing the base plan.

I received a 1gig free add-on for 2 months from Koodo. It just fell off after that, nothing else required to do.

Nothing else on my plan changed.

If you go back to the original text from Koodo and reply YES again you will get another 1Gb per month again for 2 months.

I had that once, activated it a bit never used any of the extra data. but it's exactly what I would need now! But I don't have that old text message any more. My then phone died recently.

That text was deleted ages ago, but I don't care.

The thing is it never ends. When it expires just text YES. Extra 1Gb a month forever.

The new offer, from number 7802, days that "YES" means I buy 500 MB at $5.

Nice bug. I prefer unlimited data over 1 GB.

Weird if you got the initial text from Koodo. Call in?

I just looked in my text and had one to get 1GB for free for 6 months before July 15, 2016 but didn't want to risk my MB plan so ignored. I assume this is just a continuation of this every 2 months after this originally expired. Maybe they will do it again but our family members don't typically go over 2-2.5GB / mo each anyway
