    Toronto August 2017 - New Plans - Review / Comment?

    Hello,

    I've been very unhappy with Rogers wireless and is looking into switching to a new wireless provider.

    Currently Locked into Rogers

    I am currently locked under contract with Rogers where I have:

    $62 device balance (ends in Nov 2017)
    $35 cancellation fee, applicable whenever I leave Rogers
    $50 (+ tax) to unlock my device (Jan 1, 2018 - crtc unlock fee is no longer available)
    -----------
    $147 + 13% (tax)
    =~ $166

    Current Rogers Contract Plan - $77 (corp discount of 30% for $110 plan), total is $86.01 (includes tax)

    - unlimited airtime;
    - 5 (+2 gb bonus during Canada Day celebration)
    - voicemail / caller id;
    - unlimited texting / picture messaging

    Public Mobile

    Would it be worth it to switch to Public Mobile now and pay the Rogers' fees to leave?

    The July 31, 2017 bonus "plan" has expired but I see it's still currently available (no expiration date this time):

    3G LTE Network:

    12 gb (+6 gb bonus, total is 18gb/90 days) where it's about 6 gb/month for $156 / 3 (months) = $52 - ($2 autopay) = $50/month is still alive.

    4G LTE Network (Today, Public just released a new "bonus" data plan)

    12 gb (+6 gb bonus, total is 18gb/90 days); avg 6 gb/month for $225 / 3 (months) = $75/month - ($2 autopay) = $73/month

    Note:

    I really need to switch out of Rogers because the reception is poor along the Stouffville Gotrain line between Unionville to Kennedy Stations. I couldn't contact my manager that my gotrain had a delayed and got into a lot of trouble.

    If there's another plan or phone provider that offers at least 6+gb of data, please let me know. I heard Public is on Telus so it's better than Rogers. Any truth to this?

    Also, Wind / Freedom Mobile is not available in my area... =(

    You guys are mental (mind my language) for paying this much when Koodo $49/6GB QC Plan exists with Unlimited Everything (Call/Text).

    ^ update to my original post

    I've paid off: $62.xx balance and have now switched to a no-tab (aka no contract) of 300-min local airtime and 7gb data for $95 * (0.70 corp discount) * 1.13 = $75.15

    Let's hope the Rogers mastercard cc points conversation will be applied to my new invoice of updated plan and balance. I hope the invoice goes through so I can switch to Public Mobile.
