    will this work?

I got an LG Rebel from HSN for $50.
Can I activate it (new number) and then just take the sim card out and put in in my old nexus 5 for my kid?
Does the Rebel come with a sim card, and what size is it?
I am away from home and haven't seen the Rebel yet ...

    Thanks!

Yes, the L44VL uses a Verizon Nano SIM.

I have a Rebel and have no issues with it. I do use it for Geocaching , but mostly talk and text.

Be very careful when using an adapter. The fewer times in and out of the SIM holder the lesser chance of snagging the contacts and ruining the SIM holder for further use.

Contacts are not stored on the device and backed up on a Google account?

The metal contacts inside the SIM slot.
They can be damaged by taking the SIM card out and putting it back in the phone. Especially with a SIM card adapter.
