    Unhappy Need major advice/help

My mother was recently switching from cricket to Sprint and we found out (through Apple customer care) that cricket/AT&T locked her unlocked iPhone 7 (bought from Best Buy) to AT&T. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this similar issue before and if anyone can point into the right direction so I can get out of this nightmare? Thank you in advance.

Cricket or ATT wouldn't have locked her phone, it was locked when it was purchased.

What model iPhone did she buy? I didn't think the 7 series had all the bands like the 6s versions. gigahurtz is correct in that phone was already locked when purchased.

Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using HoFo mobile app

The model she bought is the A1660 which is the sim free unlocked version. Total noob question but how would a unlocked iPhone be locked? I was there with her when she bought it and just popped the cricket sim in.

    Another evil BB/crapple policy.
As a US citizen I have the right to criticize my government. My thanks for this is endless in magnitude. I fear fascism is here in the US. [fascism: government led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition & criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., & emphasizing an aggressive nationalism & often racism]

    Red Pocket (AT&T) $255yr UTnT 3GB
    AirVoice (AT&T) $20mo UTnT 50MB
T-Mo Gold Rewards $10yr exp ext
    Tello (Sprint) $5 1+call/3mo=no exp x2

    Really, really sucks.

The safe route when buying a new, unlocked iPhone from any other vendor besides Apple, is to put a postpaid, NOT prepaid Verizon SIM card in the phone and (assuming the SIM isn't active, which it doesn't have to be) activate over WIFI. Then you'll be assured that the device isn't locked to any carrier.

Cricket should unlock the iPhone for you; no reason why they shouldn't.

That or the $55 "super throttled" plan should work, yes.

The throttled plan still counts towards free unlocking? Good to know- I thought only the most expensive one did that.

It should; I don't know of any policy saying that Unlimited plan doesn't qualify for the unlock.

And IIRC, there was a HOFOer that reported a successful unlock on the more throttled Unlocked plan.

    Yep. Only buy from Apple.

There are going to be TONS of people who think they have unlocked phones...and they're locked.

    Secondary/tertiary buyers: You've been warned.
