Millions more people live on the SE coast than live in the Ft Myers area. So yes, having the hurricane directly hit a vastly less populated area is fortunate.

I know the news reporters have been salivating about a direct hit to Miami since last Tuesday. But that doesn't appear that it will happen.

Ft. Lauderdale is 125 miles from the eye at about 8:00 am EDT. It's not surprising that service still works. Wait until the eye hits Ft. Myers.

Yeah the hardest hit areas prob won't have cell service for long no matter the carrier. I've been through a cat3 storm and it was so windy I wouldn't have been surprised to see generators flying by. I would hate to be in a 4 or a 5.

My philosophy now is to evacuate when it's a cat 2 or higher.

I am in Clearwater which is in the Tampa Bay Area. The current track has the storm crossing my back yard so we will see what happens. While I'm interested in seeing just how well T-Mobile handles this major weather event I am more concerned with the safety of my family and friends. We are boarded up and waiting. Trying to figure out if I am limber enough to get my head between my legs in case I need to kiss my butt goodbye later.

I will post updates when and if I can as to T-Mobile's status. Be safe everyone

Does AT&T still have a signal and can you use it?

Service had been solid here in Clearwater, granted we did not get hit as hard as many did throughout the state but T-Mobile held up well here.

Everyone I've talked to in FL has said TMobile held up well on the Eastern part

That's mostly on the east coast side. Two on the west part haven't talked to today so not sure

T-Mobile already sucks in SW Florida. I can only imagine what it is like now.

T-Mobile has stayed up for family in West Palm Beach despite a commercial power outage in the area since yesterday, although LTE data was heavily loaded at times. Calls & text worked without issues.

No I could not connect to att. To text or call had to go outside and toggle airplane mode to get band 12 while on 4 it wouldn't work at all..
