Apple watch series 3 cellular plan

Looks like Telus will not be able to support the Apple watch series 3 at launch. Looks like Apple has designed it so you sign up for the plan on your device while pairing to your phone. That would mean Telus has to integrate their activation systems with the Apple activation server to setup the plan and add the embedded sim to their system.

Bell has posted their plan price for watch series 3. $5 per month. You can bet Telus will be the same price.
I'm also guessing it might not work on some plans that do not support shared data, possibly will not work on corporate plans either.

From my reading it appears like it gets setup similar to a tablet share plan on the back end. So if your account wouldn't work with the $10 tablet share it likely will not work with the watch plan.
Calls are via VoLTE so it likely has some coverage gaps on the watch if you go out of LTE coverage area. Because VoLTE is all VOIP data they can do nifty tricks like the simultaneous ringing of two devices. It's actually a very good example of what becomes possible when you switch your core to pure IP calling.

The watch is assigned a fake phone number you would likely see on your phone bill sharing reports which isn't too surprising. It's still a separate device so the billing system still needs to keep track of it that way.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

I too am excited about an Apple Watch with LTE. I was in store earlier this week and rep showed me that they have had a $5/month smartwatch plan in their system for over a year. Perhaps in anticipation of LTE smart watches and this $5 plan will be what comes with the Apple Watch 3?

Do we know when Telus will have the Apple Watch system working?

The $5 watch plan has been available since late 2015. They even rolled out a voice add-on for some of the Samsung Gear smartwatches with calling abilities.

Yeah, that initial version $5 plan looks like data only. Voice minute pay per use similar to a tablet plan means it definitely is not the one meant for this apple watch but the price point certainly matches what we expect now that Bell has set the standard.

I'm expecting it will be a problem with business plans as you can see in screenshot it says consumer plans only. I know the Telus billing system has had separate data sharing buckets so that you cannot mix and match small business and consumer plans on the same account and share minutes and data though I'm not really sure why or if it's something they could simply fix. I expect all my small business plans will have a problem activating the watch plan once it's released.

I chatted with a Telus support rep and they don't have a solid date yet. But did say it had something to do with updating the billing/network system with the eSim logistics, so not a huge deal to roll out. I think it would be ready way before xmas he had said. So not too far away! And they also assumed the same $5/m pricing as an add-on to share the data/voice/sms of your normal plan. Basically just like Bell's.
