If I buy prepaid iPhone SE but use SIM in another phone, will they unlock after 6 mon

If I buy the AT&T Prepaid iPhone SE but use the included SIM
in another phone(for example, my iPhone 7 or Galaxy S7 edge),
will AT&T still give me the unlock phone for the iPhones SE
after 6 months of prepaid service? I'll be using the $45/month
    prepaid service for 6 months.

Or must that SIM card be inside the iPhone SE during the entire
6 months of prepaid service in order for them to unlock it?

    Thanks!

You should just have them transfer the service to the new sim before activating the phone. Then activate the phone and you will definitely meet your commitment.

    Thanks!

What if I'm not an existing AT&T Prepaid or postpaid customer at all?

If I buy the AT&T Prepaid iPhone SE, activate it, but take the SIM card
out and use it in my iPhone 7?

It should work. But since AT&T has gone [email protected]$$ on the whole 6 month/180 day unlock requirement, you're much safer swapping out the SIM and making a couple calls/sending a couple texts/hitting a couple websites once or twice a month from the SE.

That way, AT&T can't say the phone wasn't used and reject your unlock request.

You're already paying for the AT&T service; might as well use it and cover yourself at the same time.

I'm hearing you can unlock it on ebay for $49.
Get $25 credit by switching to Cricket Wireless! Then $250 by referring others! Same AT&T signal! Click here!

I wonder whether anyone has successfully done it recently. I see an offer for $59 on eBay now. Maybe they found another way around ATT's restrictions. Earlier this year they tightened eligibility, which broke these third party unlock services.

Luckily the SE I bought someone this summer was for someone who went to GoPhone. So we didn't have to unlock it, and if she wants to change to a verizon based company in 4 months she can unlock it herself.
I gave into temptation, and bought the iPhone X, even though I had a perfectly good, though oversized, 7+.
