New Apple Watch points to VoLTE calling on Sprint

    https://www.apple.com/watch/cellular/

According to Apple, Apple Watch series 3 will be LTE-only on Sprint. Since they claim calls on the watch, it follows that the watch will use VoLTE on Sprint.

I thought the same thing when he mentioned LTE/UMTS during the keynote.

I don't think it will have voice service at all for Sprint or Verizon. The spec page has a footnote for those 2 carriers, implying they might not even get regular voice service (maybe VoIP or Facetime).

I think the best Sprint will be able to put forth will be a clunky implementation of "Calling Plus." So very unfortunate.

I’m pretty sure the Apple Watch isn’t using VoLTE for calling. It’s using FaceTime or the same technology used for calling on the iPad and Mac

Reward for pics of apple crushing thousands of unsold watches.
As a US citizen I have the right to criticize my government. My thanks for this is endless in magnitude.

Fascism is here led by a hypersensitive psychopathic dictator having complete power, obsessively suppressing criticism, regimenting industry & commerce. Emboldening racism & aggressive nationalism.

    It is certainly a possibility.

I thought they said it will share the same number as your iPhone hence get phone calls as normal

Not sure how that will work on Sprint. Verizon at least has VoLTE and TMO/ATT have UMTS networks. Unless they're using Calling Plus, its not gonna be a great experience with Sprint's limited LTE footprint.

    No according to http://s4gru.com/index.php?/forums/t...8-x-announced/ .

But HPUE has not proved of much value, in S8's anyway, at least so far (maybe it is not properly implemented in S8). People are doing A/B tests and seeing no difference with HPUE on versus off. It is more important so far for Magic Box use etc. or maybe in later phones next year.

I haven't seen any evidence that "HPUE" is anything more than some made up name created to sell phones. Prove me wrong. Please.

Well it is having some teething problems in the first Sprint phones that have it but is real enough.

HPUE's generic form is now part of the LTE Standard of 3GPP:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HPUE

The TDD version development of HPUE in the "Global TDD LTE Initiative (GTI)" was co-led by Sprint, with participation from China Mobile, SoftBank, Qualcomm Technologies, Samsung, ZTE, Broadcom, MediaTek, Skyworks Solutions, Alcatel, Motorola, LG and Qorvo.
