When is Freedom getting the LG V30?

Currently leaning towards the S8+ but the V30 looks compelling and if it comes in at a lower price point would be even more so for me. Also, hoping maybe it would have WiFi calling out of the box. Freedom still hasnt added that to the S8 and it is holding me back.

Oct 5 is the US date now. I am hoping Canada isn't far behind. Not optimistic that the 2 year warranty or VR goggles will carry over tho. Canada always gets screwed on that stuff.

US price is around $800 for the 64GB, $900 for the 128GB model. I am thinking this will be a $1000 phone in Canada starting out too.

Lg V 20 has not had security updates since May 1 . My Nexus 6p has the September 5th update. V20 is on Android 7.

Lg is not good at doing Security Updates

Most manufacturersn run months behind on updates. That is the only good thing about my Nexus 6. Google is about to drop security updates and the hardware kinda sucks, especially the camera so it is time to move on. LG V30 looks like the primary contender despite their spotty update history. Least they aren't any worse than the other major hardware manufacturers in that department.

If you wait a few months after LG products go on sale, you can get them for quite a bargain as they drop in value quickly.

Yeah, I might wait till the first of the year to upgrade. It will depend on what the intro price and tab discount come to on release. If it is as high as the S8 then I will wait for the price to drop.

They did drop the price of the V20 by $300 for boxing day, last year.

Look at the Google Pixel 2 XL.
For the most part, the same phone as the LG V30 (the Pixel 2 XL is manufactured *by* LG). Some minor differences, like the "dual camera" configuration in the V30 is replaced by "dual sensor pixels" in the pixel 2. The display is the exact same unit. Likely the mainboard is identical, etc.

Plus the support on the Pixel is from Google, which is a major added bonus. Google is known for fixing problems WAY past warranty.

And from the more geekish side... complete device tree in AOSP and unlockable bootloader, so no wrestling with possibly warranty voiding hacks and no struggle with missing source code.

The V20 is off the Freedom website, if that means anything...

V20 was a year old. It wasn't a bad deal at $400 tho.

I have a Nexus 6 now....updates from Google have been nice but they have had some royal screw up with the updates that have turned into a nightmare. The speaker phone didn't work for awhile due to a software bug, they broke Android Pay and even did a version roll back from 7.1 to 7.0 at one point. It is better now but support for security updates is being dropped. I previously had a Nexus 4 made by LG and had good luck with it. I think the V30 seems better than the Pixel 2 overall...software updates being the only thing the Pixel 2 has going for it.

Load Paranoid Android (AOSPA) and the phone gets a new lease of life. The battery life spikes to 3-4 days, camera works well, speaker bug fixed!
