    Phones for AWS-3 / band 66

For news and discussion of phone options for the nascent WIND/Freedom LTE network.

The first was the LG V20, previously discussed in this thread.

Today a second band 66 phone is available, the ZTE Grand X 4.

The next 6 months should see a wave of AWS-3 capable devices come to market, not only for Freedom and Videotron but as well the major US wireless providers who've invested billions in the spectrum.

I recently heard rumours that Samsung will be issuing firmware updates to applicable phones for Band 66. I don't know how true this is but it would be a better solution than having to shell out more $s for a new device.

Wouldn't Samsung have to recertify with the FCC a phone with new bands added? Even if the Galaxy S7 theoretically had the hardware needed to use Band 66, only phones sold after it was recertified would be allowed to use it.

You're probably right, it does seem a bit pie in the sky. But it is something I've heard and have seen repeated in other forums so I brought it up here. What ever the case may be, I'm not giving up my 10GB, US data and calling, it's a perfect plan for me and I'll be hanging onto it for as long as I can.

Am confused about the phones available.
Checked willmyphonework and it says this works http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Inter...ay-373063.html
Does it? Considering getting it and going LTE if it does.

    From your link:

    "This phone will only work with 2G:GSM 850 /900 /1800/ 1900MHz 3G: WCDMA 850 /900/1700/1900/2100MHz 4G: FDD-LTE 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20 (800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600MHz)MHz "

This phone will work on LTE if you live in Ottawa or Kingston.

The LG V20 is on sale.

Was $299 with $25/mo tab boost, $999 outright.

    Now $99 / $799

    $299 with $15/mo boost.
    $649 on basic tab.

Videotron is the first Canadian carrier to announce they'll carry the LG G6. That suggests it supports band 66, and may join the Freedom LTE phone roster. A very impressive looking device. Won't be cheap.
