Question CDMA Verizon and GSM phone choices

I am looking for a phone that would work on Verizon and on GSM network.

I have verizon as a provider and am ok with keeping them. the cell service is good though expensive. I don't have a contract with them any more.

I would like to purchase, on my own, a phone that will work on verizon and on GSM network. GSM in this case is a phone that will work in the rest of the world, not in the US. Or possibly, I will switch away from Verizon.

We keep our phones a long time and don't have to have the latest etc. Current phone is Samsung Galaxy S4 and is 5 years old. I am also concerned about battery life.

I know that iPhone 6 will serve me, but am also looking for Android options. I would prefer Android because of the way I use the phone.

I am looking at at least 64gig and 5.5" screen smartphone.

Would appreciate some suggestions please. thanks
