Question Safe to post a phone's IMEI on eBay?

Is it safe to post a phone's IMEI when posting for sale on eBay, Kijiji, etc? (some buyers ask for it as they think it may be stolen, etc)

Also is it necessary to wipe phone with an app prior to selling? Or is data mining phones no longer an issue these days?

I would certainly not do that.

What you could do is if a buyer wants to know if the IMEI is clean for a certain carrier would be to run the IMEI through the carrier's checker and confirm it passes as a condition of sale.

When I sell a phone on eBay I put a note in the description, "If you want the IMEI of this device, please contact me using the Contact Seller feature." That way it's not public and genuinely interested bidders can get it if they want it.

I don't use an app for wiping the phone. But I always do a hard reset through the button combination rather than Settings>Backup and Reset>Factory reset. I don't know. It may do exactly the same thing. I just feel that it's a more thorough reset when I don't even load Android.
My smartphone is a lot smarter than I am.

I wouldn't. I sold a phone once and showed the IMEI in the picture. Some *** cloned it to their phone and made the actual phone not able to be activated.
