adding refurbished G4 to Total Wireless account

I had four Moto G4s on Total Wireless. I've had to send two in for warranty service (both developed severe ghost touch). I reverted back to older phones in the interim. I got one replaced and reactivated with no problem. Now, on the second one that I've received from Motorola, Total Wireless tells me the IMEI is "not compatible" with Total Wireless. I tried online chat, and I tried calling the customer service number several times and asking for supervisors. All anyone will tell me is that it is "not compatible"

When I check the new IMEI on Swappa's online checker it shows up clean.

    Any suggestions?

Can't you just SIM swap from the older phones? Assuming the SIMs are compatible. If you google "moto IMEI not compatible" this seems to be a fairly common problem. SIM swapping seems to be the quick and dirty fix.

Can't do it. Because I was going to be without a phone on that line, I ported the one I was going to return back to an old simless 3G phone, so the sim is no longer active. The weird part is that I've still got two Moto G4s and a Play G4 active on Total Wireless.

I just checked the phone on Verizon's IMEI checker and it says incompatible with Verizon.

I don't know which company I dislike more, Tracfone or Motorola since Lenovo bought it. I regret the G4s I have.

You can always get an VZ LTE parts phone or cheap working VZ LTE phone off Ebay with a clean IMEI and move the units on the 3G phone to a new SIM and put that into the 4G. I've done that a few times with VZ Moto Prepaid phones I've unlocked.

Interesting. So all I would need is to own clean Verizon 4G/LTE IMEI number and a new T.W. sim? I could make that transfer with T.W. online and the donor phone doesn't even have to work?

I may see if Motorola will send me another phone first.

I've done it before a few times with Tracfone/Verizon so I am assuming one can do the same thing with TW. I've done it with a working phone and a phone that was just parts with a clean IMEI just activating the SIM online with the clean IMEI in both cases and then swapping in the SIM to the recipient phone.

    Makes sense. Thanks.

    KSSteve,
Sounds like LG gave you a phone with a new IMEI that's not whitelisted in the Verizon system. I bet you could just use your old G4 IMEI without any issues.

Thanks. I'd try reusing the Moto G4 IMEI, in that case.

My unlocked G4 Plus was accepted with no hiccups by the online activation process.
However my son's iPhone 6s Plus didn't, I had to call it in.
